Mummification of chickens!

Today we completed the second step in the mummification of chickens.
Think about what you know about the ancient Egyptians mummification process.
Provide your opinion to the following questions:

1.) What have we done (in the chicken mummification lab) that is like the ancient Egyptians mummification processes?
2.) What COULD we do (in the chicken mummification lab) to be more accurate or more like the ancient Egyptians?

  1. In the chicken lab, we could have let the chickens stay in the bag for the actual amount of time that the original mummies did {about 40 days). What we have done that is related to the ancient Egyptians mummification process is that we are letting the chicken dry out with preservatives.

  2. We have mummified chickens in school. It was just the the Ancient Egyptian Mummification process for many reasons. One reason is because we dried up the chicken just like they dried out the body. We could have done a few things to make it more like how the ancient Egyptians mummified each other. We could have used a bigger object rather then a chicken, because then it would be just like we were really mummifying a human(Ancient Egyptian).

  3. 1. we have put salt in the bodys of the chikens to make it shirink
2.leave the cheken body for 90 days in salt

  4. So far we have salted the chickens, and we are in the process of drying them out. I think we should dress up in Egyptian clothes and do it in style. We should put the chicken on a desert floor and do it like the Egyptian people. At the end we the end we should eat REAL chicken wings.

  5. 1.) What we have done in the mummification lab for the chicken that is like the mummification for the Ancient Egyptians is that we took out any organs that were still in the chicken and we placed a mixture of salt and other spicees to dry out the animal over time.

2.) What we could do in the chicken lab to be more accurate is we could wrap it in some type of cloth and burry it under ground for a period of time. After a trimester or so, we could dig it out and see how the chicken as changed over time and to see if it looked the same as the mummyies did in Ancient Egypt.

  6. 1) We have taken the insides out and we have put like a drying rub on it like the eqyptians would.
2)We could try to make mommia and put it on the chickens

  7. 1: We dried the chicken like they do im mummification.

2: We could make a casket to make it more accurate.

  8. One thing we have done right in the chicken mummification so far is that we dried our chicken right, using the right materials. But, also, one more thing I think we could do better is that we could wrap the chicken, which I don't know if 's we're going to do, but that's what they did in ancient Egypt, so...you get my point.

  9. 1)we let the mummy (chiken)lay in sault so it would dehydrate just like the ancient egyptians did with thier mummy
2)we could actually cut the chiken and take out th soft organs

  10. 1. What we did in the chicken mummification lab that was like the anciet Egyptions mummification prosses was we coated them in spices and made their organs and put them in the canopic jars.

    2. What we could do in the chichen mummification lab so it would be more like the ancient Egyptions is we should actually take out the liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines so it would be like what they do to the ancient egyptions.

  11. 1. In the Chicken mummification lab we have done many things simmilar to the way ancient Egyptians have mummified mummies. For example once we had preped the chickens we coated them in salt and spices to contiue to dry out the chickens.

    2. We could make mummifing the chickens more accurate by having the different jobs for each section of the mummification process. Also we should (if we arn't already) use the same amount of time to mummify the chickens like the ancient Egyptians.

  12. One thing that we did that was just like the ancient Egyptians is that we used salt and spices to dry out the chicken and prepare it for being wraped.

One thing that we could do like the ancient Egyptians is put the chicken in a chamber like place instead of a plastic bag.

  13. 1.) What have we done (in the chicken mummification lab) that is like the ancient Egyptians mummification processes?

we have left the chikens in salt for a week and taken out the all the organs in the chikens and put salt in them again and there sitting in a bucket for another week.

2.) What COULD we do (in the chicken mummification lab) to be more accurate or more like the ancient Egyptians?

we could use foil or cotton balls and throw them at the people who are cutting the chikens like they did in ancient egypt.

  14. The ancient egyptions uase to rap dead people because they belived that when you die you gi live in the after life. our project is like that but we are using chickens. just like the ancient egyptions we hav let the body dry out and took out all the organs and blood, and now we have just recently put in things to dry it out a little more and make it smell good when we do rap it.

I think we should say little things like the ancient egyptions did before they rapped the boddies. thy would say prarys we would have to say prarys but mabey something funny like ........ " i think this chicken was a good friend and i cant waiit to see him in the after life "

  15. What we did in the chicken mummification lab that is like the ancient Egyptians did to their mummies is. We removed their insides, cleaned them, made statues to go along with it, and put salt and baking soda and other things that absorb moisture.

  16. We have salted the chicken like the ancient Egyptians did to dry the Body.

Find the real ingrediants they used and use those instead (Unless we are actually using them then forget it)

  17. Some of the things that we did similar to the ancient Egyptians were:
    -covering the chickens with preservatives
    -removing their organs
    -covering them with salt
Some of the things that we could have done like the ancient Egyptians are:
-having a ceremony with important Pharaoh's/gods
-throwing stones at the people who were removing the chickens internal organs.

  18. We have dried out the chickens to get all of the water out and we have stuffed it with salt.
We could have put organs in the chicken and pretended to take them out.

    ReplyDelete
  19. We have dried out the chickens with a baking soda/salt mix. We could make a sarcophagus for the chickens to make a more realistic ancient Egyptian mummafication ceremony.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1. we filled it with spices and dehydrated and stuff.

    2. we could have removed the organs through a cut in the chickens body

  21. 1.In the chicken lab we used salt and other spices to preserve the body, much like ancient Egyptians.
2.We could have removed the organs of the chicken, in order to be more accurate to the traditional methods of mummification.

  22. in the chicken lab we dried out the chickens and put it in spices and put spices in it so that it would dry out and we let it sit for a while and shrank. I think we should make little pyramids with trap doors and wrap the chickens in toilet paper or whatever the ancient egyptians used to wrap the mummies or we should bury them somewhere

  23. 1. we dry out the chicken so it dehydrates like they do to the bodies.

2.we could let it sit for the same exact time over a period of time

  25. 1.) What have we done (in the chicken mummification lab) that is like the ancient Egyptians mummification processes?

We took out all the organs and we dried it out with spices so it would dehidrate.

2.) What COULD we do (in the chicken mummification lab) to be more accurate or more like the ancient Egyptians?

We could rap it with toilet paper and do the opening of the mouth ceremony. Also we could do the weigh the heart thing but with out the swallower eating.

  26. Somethings we have done that is like the ancient egyptians mummification process is:
*~We all had jobs to help with the mummification
    *~We took out the organs
    *~We stuffed the chicken
*~We used things such as salt to help preserve the chicken.

Somethings we could've done to be more like the ancient egyptians during their mummification process is:
    *~Have a big ceremony
*~Have morners come to the ceremony (haha)
*~Build a tomb to put the body in.
*~Throw stones at the person who takes out the organse.

  27. 1) We toke out the inner organs and dried out the chickens with salts and spices.
    2) What we could do is make and decorate
    sarcophagus's and bury them.

    2) What we can do is

  28. 1:We mixed the salt with the baking soda and then put it in the chicken. 2 weeks later the chicken lost its weight. The same thing happened when the Ancient Egyptians mummified people, they lost weight.
2:What we can do is wrap the chicken up and keep underground for a long period of time and see what happens.

1.In the lab so far we have taken out the organs and we are dehydrating the body.

2.We could be more like the ancient Eygptians by acutiolly asigning parts like the slitter. Also we could let it sit longer in the salt like how the ancient Eygptians took a long time to mummifie it.

  30. it was ok we should do more stuff like this.

    .......
1.) What have we done (in the chicken mummification lab) that is like the ancient Egyptians mummification processes?
2.) What COULD we do (in the chicken mummification lab) to be more accurate or more like the ancient Egyptians?

    ANSWERS
    .........
1). A couple of things that we have done that is the same as what we did in class are, we are drying out the chicken. Also, we are adding spices and salt, just like the Ancient Egyptians did, during the process of mummification.

2). To be, more accurate during the process of mummification for the chicken we could wrap gauze around it. Then, finally put it in three different coffins, just like the ancient Egyptians.

  32. I think that the chicken lab was very entertaining and that we should do labs like this because we prefer to have fun AND learn and this was a good way that represented that.I also noticed that the chicken weighed less than before and was a good amount smaller than when we first saw the chicken.

  33. 1.) What have we done (in the chicken mummification lab) that is like the ancient Egyptians mummification processes?

we have god a chicken, and dehydrate it using salt, baking soda, and many other spices. after the chicken was weighed, so that in a week, we will know how much weight it has lost. because of the salt & and spices, dehydrating the chicken and making it shrivel up.
2.) What COULD we do (in the chicken mummification lab) to be more accurate or more like the ancient Egyptians?

we could actually decorate a coffin, and put the chicken inside of it. to make the mummification of the chicken more legit. other then that idea i think that this activity is at its maximum of fun.

  34. So far we have taken a chicken and checked the weight after 2 weeks to see how much its changed. So then we really just did what we did before again for example 1. drying it 2.putting more salt on it 3. putting it in the baggy full of salt so it would dry even more. it think we could put the chicken in a decorated that has hieroglyphs on it and little things they would need in the afterlife just like the real ceremony that happened in Ancient Egypt

  35. 1. We have preserved just like the chickens with salt and made them shrink just like the Ancient Egyptians.
    2. I think we should make a sarcophagus for each chicken that have decorations on them. I also think we should do a ceremony.

  36. my group had a great time with the lab today! I personally think that there are many ways in which the chicken mummification lab is simmilar to the ancient egyptians mummification processes, but in some ways is different. First off, the ancient egyptians removed all of the organs in the body, we sort of did the same for the chicken. Next, the ancient egyptians let the organs dry and then put them in canopic jars, as far as I know, I think that we acutally drew the organs and placed them in jars (I personally think that it is a great idea). A way we can make it better is that we should accutally make a heart (out of clay or something like the sort) and then dry it and place it in the chicken. Anyways, after the ancient egyptians covered the body in salt, like us and than put it back. I am looking forward to wrapping the chicken, just the the ancient egyptians, I am sure that it will be a lot of fun. Finially, one last point that I would like to add is that we could have people come and cry for the chickens death :) I can't wait to see how its going to turn out.

  37. When we mummified the chickens, we have done exactly what they did so far. We have taken out the wet orgins and filled it with salt to dry it out. To be more accurate to the Egyptians we could have taken out the orgins our selfs and then throwen rocks (or crumpled paper) at the slitter while he ran out of the room.

  38. WE salted the chickens and the ancient egyptians did. Also we took out the chickens organs.

  39. Brian E the chickens were salted and i cant wait for the next mummification process.

  40. i cant wait to do the next step so yeah the chickens got salted

    ReplyDelete
  41. 1.We dehydrated the bodies like the egyptians did

2.We can bury the chickens or put them somewhere hot for 35 days like the egyptians did

    ReplyDelete
  42. we should add less salt so they can grow

    ReplyDelete
  43. First we washed the chicken and dried it. The second thing that we did was salt the chicken and lastly we put the chickens inside plastic bags.I think that we should of done the same thing to the chicken like how the people did it in Egypt.

  44. First we washed the chickens then we took out the oragans. Once we did that you would dry off the chicken and stuff it with sult and other spieces. After 2 weeks the chickens were dyhdrated, so the we washed them again and dryed them off. Then we stuffed it back up with the speices.
